GREGORY LOMAYESVA
Born
to a Hispanic Santera and a Hopi artist, Gregory Lomayesva,
still a young artist has achieved great recognition for
his wood sculptures and paintings. His masks and sculptures
draw on his background, but he clearly uses poetic license
to add his own abstract designs. These are not kachinas,
but they are inspired by Hopi designs. The shapes are
Hopi, but everything else comes from his imagination.
The son
of acclaimed artists, Gregory Lomayesva grew up in
Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Combining the aspects of both
Western and Hopi culture, art collectors often see Gregory's
work as a breath of fresh air.
"I
love Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Warhol and Pollock.
In my paintings, I want to convey pop art, and I love
fashion."
